Section 189: Adoption not to be effected without obtaining permission

1) No foreigner shall be allowed to hold any minor of a Nepali citizen or of a foreigner domiciled in Nepal as an adopted son or daughter, without obtaining permission from the Government of Nepal.

2) Permission for adoption under this Chapter shall be granted only to the citizens or married couples of those countries which are opened by the Government of Nepal, by a notification in the Nepal Gazette, for inter-country adoption in Nepal.
